Texto de abertura do EIMC/ Opening text of the IMCM

INTERNATIONAL MEETING ON CHORAL MUSIC USP/RP
(XIIIth century, cited by Chailley, 1950)
The choral life in our Music Department is very strong: we have the Ademus Madrigal, directed by Professor Cristina Emboaba, the Experimental Voice Workshop, directed by Professor Silvia Berg, and the classes of Choral Conducting and Choral Singing. This is an indication of the choral community in Ribeirão Preto and surrounding region. Here you can also find many groups with long histories including the School of Choral Singing of the Symphony Orchestra of Ribeirão Preto, directed by Professor Snizhana Drahan.
Choral singing is a practice of transference where one may experience the most diverse genres and musical styles. Both art music and popular repertoires meet and mingle in a democratic and pedagogical way. She who sings in a choir can become permeable to that which is new or different.
Singing in choir also provides a deeper understanding of musical language, rhetoric, and architecture. For it is in making the music with our own bodies that we feel, experience, intuit, and eventually comprehend musical structure.
Beyond the intellectual, the choir promotes important human values such as solidarity, respect and cooperation.
The IMCM´s main objective is to gather the community into a chorus with a goal of enriching the knowledge and skills while promoting fellowship and exchange of experiences among the various groups.
And in so doing, we remember to promote music not as an instrument of the elite but the voice of our whole society. Only then, can singing transform us and integrate our society.

[2] Great is the distance between musicians and singers: singers sing sounds organized by music, but musicians comprehend this order. Because singing what is not understood is proper only to animals.
